Laura Uribe, 25, died in a crash early Sunday morning on Route 83 near 55th Street

The sister of a young woman who died in a horrific wrong way crash early Sunday morning in west suburban Clarendon Hills shared about her family’s grief with NBC 5.

Maria Alzate Uribe’s sister, Laura Uribe, was one of two people who died in a crash on Route 83 near 55th Street, police said.

Juan Rodea-Cruz, the driver who hit the car Laura was riding in was arrested and charged with Aggravated DUI Causing Death, a Class 2 felony, and one count of Aggravated DUI Causing Great Bodily Harm, a Class 4 felony.

Maria Uribe said Laura was originally from Colombia, and was working as an au pair while pursuing a master’s degree.

“She was really smart,” Maria Uribe said. “She was following her dream. She fell in love with Chicago when she got here.”

A 26-year-old man, Marko Boskovic, was also killed in the crash. Laura’s boyfriend, a third victim, suffered critical injuries, and was last reported in stable condition at Advocate Good Samaritin Hospital in Downers Grove.

A fourth man was treated and released from the hospital.

According to police, Rodea-Cruz smelled of alcohol, and after the crash, they found numerous bottles of beer and liquor in the car.

Still, Laura’s sister said their mother harbored no ill will.

“She doesn’t blame him…” Maria Uribe said. “There’s no room for hate in her heart.”
