Video showing rodents under a table at O’Hare International Airport has airport officials investigating.
The Chicago Department of Aviation said it plans to “immediately dispatch humane rodent abatement measures to the area” following footage that showed two rodents underneath a raised table where passengers can charge their phones. It remains unclear if the rodents seen in the footage are mice or small rats.
Coady Ahern, who took the video and posted it to social media, said it was taken Thursday at a gate for Spirit Airlines.
“I was waiting for my flight and couldn’t believe it," Ahern said. "It was so disgusting to see rats playing under the table.”
The airline said in a statement that O’Hare is in charge of the facility.
The Chicago Department of Aviation said it takes the matter “extremely seriously” and “one sighting of a rodent is one too many."
“CDA places a premium on the health and safety, security, and overall cleanliness of our airports, and will immediately dispatch humane rodent abatement measures to the area,” the department said in a statement. “Custodial and facilities services will also be notified to ensure causative conditions are investigated and eliminated."
