After a recent survey found more than half of TV watchers are unhappy with the cost of their bills, the Citizens Utility Board has released a first-of-its-kind guide to cutting TV costs, whether you use satellite or cable.
The guide was released in response to a survey that asked Google users if their pay-TV bill was too high. More than 51 percent of respondents said yes, while only 17 percent said no and 32 percent said they don’t pay for TV.
“We found that customers are unhappy with their pay-TV bills by a margin of three to one,” said Jim Chilsen with the Citizens Utility Board.
In response, the watchdog group put together a 20-page publication filled with tips on how to save money on pay-TV bills. The guide also outlines the pros and cons of choices in the various markets.
“People don’t feel like they have a lot of options when it comes to their monthly TV bills,” CUB Executive Director David Kolata said in a statement. “That’s why we’ve created this guide—to empower Illinois consumers and give them an easy-to-understand checklist of actions they can take to cut their TV costs.”
Among the suggestions are getting an antenna for free over-the-air signals, using internet service to stream channels to your TV, and negotiating your deal with a cable or satellite provider.
“Before you flee your cable company, you know, try to engage your cable company and try to get a better deal,” Chilsen said.
