After Calling Special Session, Rauner Plans Unusual Joint Meeting With GOP Caucus

Governor Bruce Rauner called lawmakers back to Springfield for a special session Monday after lawmakers missed his deadline to send an education funding bill to his desk. Mary Ann Ahern reports.

Just one day after calling a special session on education funding, Gov. Bruce Rauner is apparently planning a highly-unusual meeting of Republican House and Senate lawmakers.

Rauner called the Special Session on school funding Monday, promising to use his Amendatory Veto on Senate Bill 1. The General Assembly will be back in Springfield Wednesday, and now there's word Rauner has also called the unexpected meeting of Republican House and Senate lawmakers set for Thursday morning.

While the governor has met with lawmakers personally, several lawmakers say this is a first -- gathering the House and Senate GOP at one time. It also signals the special session could likely take more than a couple of days to reach a compromise on school funding.
