Alligator Removed From the Chicago River

What’s a 3-foot alligator doing in the Chicago River?

There’s a gator in these parts.

Not something you expect to hear in Chicago, but Chicago Animal Care and Control Department specialists removed a gator from the the north branch of the Chicago River, Thursday night CBS News reports.

Observers saw the reptile, believed to be between two and four feet long, chillin’ on the rocks at Fullerton and Damen, Police News Affairs Officer Kevin Kilmer said.

The cops sent a marine unit to investigate, but the gator had disappeared back into the river by the time they arrived.  The Animal Control folks came back and successfully caught him.

We’re not sure where the gator came from, but we suspect it’s one of those mythic sewer gators that found its way to daylight.
