A small Ravenswood hot dog stand should be preparing for a national TV shoot on Saturday, but instead it's left wondering what may have been.
Anthony Bourdain was scheduled to shoot a segment for his Travel Channel show "The Layover" at Budacki's Drive In (4739 N Damen Ave), but when the hot dog stand owners posted a sign Tuesday inviting people to attend the shoot, Bourdain backed out.
The show host tweeted a picture of the sign and commented "How NOT to get your place on TV: #cancelthatshoot!"
Bourdain later tweeted "Very disappointed to miss out on Budacki's hot dogs. But unhappy that shoot was advertised as a "personal appearance" and marketing device." He also said that the show tries to shoot a normal business day and that a staged audience "screws the whole dynamic up."
But an employee from the restaurant tells NBCChicago.com that the restaurant was never told that they couldn't advertise the shoot, and that a representative from the production company called and apologized for the cancellation.
Despite the mixup, Bourdain is sticking by his guns, and appears to have moved on to Toronto.
Budacki's plans to go ahead and offer guests the $1 hot dog special between 1-3 p.m. that it had originally planned during the shoot.
