Eagles Stave Off Late Comeback Attempt, Beat Bears

The Bears' losing streak now stands at four games after the Eagles hold on for the win

The Chicago Bears stormed back in the second half with 14 straight points, but it wasn't enough as the Philadelphia Eagles held on for a victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Bears trimmed the Eagles' lead to five points late in the fourth quarter, but they couldn't get back on the field in the closing minutes as the Eagles chewed up 8:14 of the clock to seal the victory.

The Bears still had a chance to get the ball back with less than 30 seconds remaining, but Adam Shaheen couldn't come up with the ball on the kickoff, and the Eagles recovered to finish off the game.

The Bears put up just nine yards of offense in the first half, their worst total in that category in 40 years, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. They got two touchdowns from David Montgomery in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Bears dropped to 3-5 on the season.

Mitchell Trubisky completed just 10 passes for 125 yards and was sacked three times in the game. Montgomery ruhsed for 40 yards and a pair of scores. The Bears managed 164 yards of offense in the game, compared to 373 yards for Philadelphia.

Jordan Howard rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown against his former team, while Carson Wentz threw for 239 yards and a score.

The Bears will now head home and face the Detroit Lions next week.

3:02 p.m.

Jake Elliott knocks through a field goal, and the Eagles lead 22-14 with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game.

2:57 p.m.

The Bears had three separate opportunities to stop the Eagles on third down and get the ball back, but they were unable to do so. Alshon Jeffery, Miles Sanders, and Dallas Goedert all pick up first downs, and the Eagles are poised to grab the win.

2:45 p.m

The Bears had a chance with the ball, but went three-and-out after a drop from Montgomery and a failed pass attempt to Adam Shaheen well short of the first down marker.

2:31 p.m.

Folks, we have ourselves a football game.

Trubisky fires a gorgeous pass to David Montgomery to get the Bears set up in the red zone, then Tarik Cohen grabs a pass and scampers to the 1-yard-line.

After two attempts, Montgomery punches the ball in, and it's 19-14 with 12:43 left in the game.

2:00 p.m.

Mitchell Trubisky hits Taylor Gabriel for a 53-yard completion, and three plays later David Montgomery punches the ball into the end zone to make it a 19-7 game.

First good offensive drive of the game for the Bears.

1:52 p.m.

After Zach Ertz gets a first down, he draws a 15-yard penalty from Eddie Jackson on a late hit.

On the very next play, Jordan Howard runs up the middle virtually untouched for an easy touchdown. Elliott hits the extra point, and it's 19-0 early in the third quarter.

1:30 p.m.

The Bears trail the Eagles 12-0 at halftime. They have nine yards of offense and have gotten one first down so far today.

Mitchell Trubisky has 24 passing yards, but has been sacked three times and lost 23 yards on those sacks, giving him one net passing yard. Trubisky has the lone offensive play of the day, a seven-yard run late in the half.

For the Eagles, Jordan Howard has 37 rushing yards, and Zach Ertz has five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.

1:25 p.m.

With 48 seconds remaining in the half, the Bears get into positive territory in yards gained and get their first first-down of the afternoon.

1:20 p.m.

It's somehow gotten worse. The Bears are now at negative-10 yards of offense after five drives.

1:08 p.m.

The Bears have had four drives and have one yard of offense. That is not a misprint.

1:06 p.m.

A roughing the passer penalty erases a fourth down stop by the Bears, and Zach Ertz takes advantage a few plays later as he hauls in a touchdown catch.

Elliott does miss the extra point though, and it remains 12-0.

12:44 p.m.

The Bears' defense stands tall again in the red zone as Prince Amukamara stuffs Miles Sanders, forcing the Philadelphia offense off the field and giving Elliott the chance to boot through another field goal, which he does.

It's now 6-0 early in the second quarter.

12:33 p.m.

The Bears end the first quarter with zero first downs and negative-1 yard of offense. Meanwhile, the Eagles have nine first downs and 122 total yards of offense.

Somehow, the score is still only 3-0.

12:16 p.m.

The Bears go three-and-out on their first drive, and the Eagles turn around and march down the field on a 70-yard drive of their own.

Fortunately for the Bears, Nick Williams and Eddie Goldman teamed up to sack Carson Wentz on third down, and Philadelphia has to settle for a Jake Elliott field goal and a 3-0 lead.

11:30 a.m.

According to the Bears’ inactive report, only Isaiah Irving is missing from the lineup due to injury, as the linebacker has been dealing with a quad issue this week.

Defensive backs Deon Bush and Duke Shelley are also out of the mix this week for the Bears, who are sitting at 3-4 and trying to stay alive in the NFC playoff hunt.

Wide receiver Riley Ridley, a 2019 draft pick of the Bears, continues to stay on the inactive list, as does offensive lineman Alex Bars. Defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson and linebacker Josh Woods round out the seven inactive players.

For the Eagles, tackle Jason Peters won’t be on the field Sunday, and the team will also be without cornerback Sidney Jones, according to the club’s inactive list.

Quarterback Nate Sudfeld, defensive ends Shareef Miller and Daeshon Hall, linebacker Nigel Bradham, and guard Nate Herbig are also inactive.

Kickoff is set for noon between the two teams.
