Two years of waiting and wondering are over for a Far South Side family.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified a body found in a drain pipe Wednesday as 30-year-old student at Everest University student Latasha Nevitt, who disappeared in 2011.
Her body was found by a Chicago Water Department employee in the area of West 107th Place and South Loomis Street, yards away from where Nevitt's family still lives.
Family spokesperson Dawn Valenti said Nevitt's mother, Brenda Morgan, was inconsolable.
"This happened to her daughter and the way she was put in a sewer in Miss Morgan's words, 'Like a piece of garbage. You disregarded my daughter like a piece of garbage.' She's angry about that, very angry," Valenti said.
Community activist Andrew Holmes, who helped pass out fliers when Nevitt first went missing, is confident an arrest will be made.
"We don't have to look very far, but let the chips fall where they may, and let this police departments and forensics do what they have to do to get the evidence that they need to get, and I believe their going to get the evidence to make an arrest," Holmes said.
Police say they plan to talk to Nevitt's husband this weekend, but he's not considered a suspect.
It's not clear how Nevitt died.
