About 150 firefighters and 50 pieces of equipment were sent to the John Hancock Center Sunday morning for a fire in the iconic high-rise's parking garage.
According to fire officials, a vehicle was on fire on the garage's 7th floor, which caused extensive smoke on the 7th and 8th floor. The smoke gravitated toward the stairwells of the building and caused some to panic.
The Chicago Fire Department rushed to the 100 block of East Delaware at approximately 9 a.m. and extinguished the fire, though officials said the sprinklers in the building contained the fire until crews arrived.
About 10 individuals were exposed to the smoke and were checked at the scene. No evacuations nor injuries were reported.
