Bryan Bickell Gets ‘One More Shift' for Blackhawks

Bryan Bickell speaks after being honored by the NHL at the league’s annual awards ceremony.

Former Chicago Blackhawks winger Bryan Bickell got to retire as a member of the team earlier this week, but the team had one more honor in store for him as he leaves the NHL.

Before the Blackhawks’ game Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Blackhawks honored Bickell with their “One More Shift” promotion, giving him the chance to skate on the ice before the game while wearing his old number 29 on his back.

Needless to say, it was an emotional scene at the United Center:

The Blackhawks played a tribute video to Bickell, who was forced to retire after last season when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He signed a one-day contract with the Blackhawks earlier this week to retire as a member of the organization.
