Buffalo Grove roads reopen hours after pedestrian struck, killed

Roads in suburban Buffalo Grove were closed for hours Monday morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed in an intersection, the Village of Buffalo Grove said in a press release.

The crash occurred at around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Buffalo Grove Road and Larraway Drive, the village said.

According to officials, a gray Toyota sedan was traveling in the southbound lanes on Buffalo Grove Road when the driver struck an 87-year-old man.

Upon arrival to the scene, police said the man, a resident of Buffalo Grove, had suffered significant injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased, the village said.

The driver, Petranka Stamatova, 60, also of Buffalo Grove, was transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary measures, the release added.

Buffalo Grove Road between Thompson boulevard and Deerfield Parkway was closed as part of the investigation for approximately four hours, the village said.

It reopened at 12 p.m., the village added.

According to officials, the crash is under investigation and no citations or charges were filed.
