Video Captured Moment Man Pulled Girl Into Car in Broad Daylight Before Assaulting Her: Authorities

Bryan Protho, 38, of East Chicago, Indiana was indicted on a federal kidnapping charge.

The harrowing moment a child was was abducted in broad daylight last month as she walked down the street was captured on video released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The kidnapping occurred near 153rd Street and Burnham Avenue in Calumet City on Dec. 20. The timestamp on the video, which reads Dec. 21, is incorrect, the FBI said.

Protho grabbed the child about 3:30 p.m. as she walked on the sidewalk, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. He then forced her into the car, parked in an alley an assaulted the child, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

The child escaped from the vehicle and flagged down a passing vehicle, officials said. Police were called shortly after.

Protho faces a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life.
