Illinois has far more than its fair share of magnificent bakeries, but the best one in the entire state calls Chicago its home – and it’s a shop you may not expect.
In a world of trendy cupcakes, cake pops and ‘fonuts’, it’s almost come to be expected the best-rated storefronts will be following some sort of new fad, though this isn’t the case of Weber’s Bakery, which Business Insider just crowned the top spot.
The company turned to Foursquare users to find the most popular places for baked goods in each state from people who know best – the ones who live there.
Foursquare allows users to favorite venues they love, and Weber’s was tagged more so than any other across the state.
Weber’s Bakery is an old school, family-owned mainstay, opened in 1930 by Erich H. Weber and passed along through generations since then.
The original bakery was opened at 45th and Kedzie, but after 85 years in operation the family moved to their ‘dream’ location where it now stays at 7055 W. Archer Avenue in Chicago’s Southwest Side neighborhood of Garfield Ridge.
Weber’s decorated cupcakes, festive sugar cookies and impeccably designed cakes show just how they have thrived for more than eight decades:
