There have been plenty of iconic hockey jerseys worn throughout the history of the NHL, but the Chicago Blackhawks stand in a class all their own, according to a new ranking.
The ranking, which was done in conjunction with the NHL’s centennial celebration, puts the Blackhawks’ Indian-head sweater as the greatest jersey in NHL history. The ranking, compiled from nearly six million fan votes, lists the Blackhawks’ current jersey design as the best in the league’s 100 year history.
“I think everyone always has viewed the logo as a classic logo that’s timeless, and obviously that has a lot to do with the history and tradition of an Original Six franchise,” Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said. “It’s special for me to play in a city like Chicago, where there’s that history of great players and teams that have won Stanley Cups and then you add the fact that they have that traditional look on the ice and you kind of get that excitement every time you wear the jersey.”

The Hartford Whalers’ iconic green jersey finished second on the list, and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim’s eggplant jersey, complete with duck-themed goalie mask, was third. The Quebec Nordiques and Minnesota North Stars rounded out the top five.
