Chicago Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde was a finalist for the Minnesota Twins managerial job, but Joe Maddon’s top lieutenant will remain put, at least for the time being.
The Twins announced Thursday that they have hired former MLB star Rocco Baldelli as their new manager, replacing Paul Molitor in that position.
Baldelli previously served in a variety of roles with the Tampa Bay Rays, most recently as the field coordinator for manager Kevin Cash. Baldelli also played for the Rays in 2008 when the team reached the World Series under Maddon’s guidance.
Hyde has been a hot commodity on the market as teams search for new managers. The Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays have both expressed an interest in his services, but neither has made a decision on their next boss.
Both Hyde and former Cubs catcher David Ross had been mentioned as potential candidates for the Twins job.
