The Chicago Cubs will be looking to retake the series lead over the Washington Nationals when the teams resume hostilities at Wrigley Field on Monday afternoon.
The Cubs, who had the lead with five outs to go in Game 2 before giving up home runs to Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman, will return home to Wrigley Field for Game 3, and they’ll hope to get back onto the winning track as the series resumes.
Here’s how Joe Maddon has set his lineup for the game:
1 Jon Jay – CF
2 Kris Bryant – 3B
3 Anthony Rizzo – 1B
4 Willson Contreras – C
Chicago Baseball
5 Ben Zobrist - 2B
6 Kyle Schwarber – LF
7 Jason Heyward – RF
8 Addison Russell - SS
9 Jose Quintana – P
With Max Scherzer on the mound, Maddon went with a good on-base guy ahead of Bryant and Rizzo, and that’s where Jay fits in. He can work counts, which could give the middle of the order guys a good look against his stuff early on.
Maddon is also using Schwarber in an effort to add more power to the mix. Getting the crowd revved up at Wrigley will be a key for the Cubs, and he’ll look to those kinds of bats to do the job.
First pitch is scheduled for 3:08 p.m. and the game will air on TBS.
