The Chicago Cubs are hoping to be playing in the MLB postseason this fall, but some of the team’s best prospects will also be competing in the annual Arizona Fall League.
The Cubs, who will send their players to the AFL’s Mesa Solar Sox roster, have only confirmed four participants in the league, but 2018 first round draft pick Nico Hoerner is among them.
Hoerner, who played college baseball at Stanford, has moved up the ranks quickly in the Cubs’ farm system, hitting two home runs and stealing six bases in 60 plate appearances at the minor league level.
The infielder will be joined by 2016 draft pick Trent Giambrone. The infielder, who is currently playing for the Tennessee Smokies, has 17 home runs and 49 RBI with the team, and has 25 stolen bases on the campaign.

Outfielder DJ Wilson, who has a home run, 13 RBI, and 10 stolen bases in 61 games this season, and infielder PJ Higgins, who has three home runs and 49 RBI in 105 minor league games this season, will also participate in the league.
The Solar Sox will play their first game of the Fall League on Oct. 9 when they take on the Scottsdale Scorpions. Streaming and television information will be announced at a later date.
