Chicago Cubs closer Pedro Strop slammed the door on the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday night at Wrigley Field, but he almost didn’t get to the ballpark because his car was stolen before the game.

According to Chicago police, Strop’s car was stolen from his garage at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Security footage showed an unknown man stealing the vehicle and driving away from the scene.

Later on Wednesday, Chicago police spotted the vehicle and attempted to engage it in a traffic stop, but the unknown thief fled the scene. The car was later located, unoccupied, in the 7100 block of South Vincennes at approximately 2:40 p.m. after it struck a parked vehicle.

No one is in custody, but Strop said that he was still dealing with the theft while the Cubs were playing the Dodgers at Wrigley Field.

Strop told ESPN’s Jesse Rogers that he was talking to police until the fourth inning of the game, and he broke up the conversation by saying “I might have to pitch. I have to go.”

Strop did indeed pitch, holding off the Dodgers and securing a series victory for the Cubs.
