The Chicago Cubs were dealt a big blow to their bullpen depth on Wednesday afternoon, as the team placed reliever Pedro Strop on the 10-day injured list.

Strop, who has a 1-2 record and a 5.06 ERA in 12 appearances this season, has recorded four saves for the Cubs, but he will be on the shelf for the foreseeable future as he was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, according to the team.

To replace Strop on the active roster, the Cubs have activated pitcher Mike Montgomery from the 10-day injured list.

Strop’s last appearance was a rough one, as he gave up three earned runs and failed to record an out in a loss to the Miami Marlins. He walked three batters and surrendered a hit before being removed from the game, and the Cubs ultimately snapped a seven-game winning streak with the loss.

According to reporters at Wrigley, Strop said he suffered the injury during an appearance against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In his last outing against Miami, Strop said he aggravated the injury, and the team has decided to shut him down.

The Cubs will take on the Marlins Wednesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
