Nearly 100K Early Voting Ballots Cast with 1 Day Left Until Election

As Sunday evening, early voting totals sat at 99,897, according to the Chicago Board of Elections

Monday marks the last day to early vote in Chicago. Lisa Chavarria reports.

With one day left to vote early in Chicago's mayoral and aldermanic election, nearly 100,000 ballots have already been cast.

As Sunday evening, early voting totals sat at 99,897, according to the Chicago Board of Elections. That number surpasses the totals for the 2015 and 2011 elections.

In 2015, 90,000 early votes were recorded and in 2011 the number dropped to 73,000.

A total of 1.5 million Chicagoans are registered to vote in the 2019 election, the Board of Elections reports.

In addition, 26,000 mail-in ballots have been returned from the 62,000 who applied to vote by mail. Those ballots are not part of the early vote totals and will not be counted until Election Day.
