The Chicago area got its first taste of winter a littler earlier than expected.
The city's far west suburbs saw snowflakes and even some accumulation around 11:30 a.m., and residents in Naperville and Bolingbrook spotted snow before the noon hour.
Temperatures Tuesday morning were in the 20s and 30s throughout the Chicago area, and some commuters were more prepared than others.
"I saw it was 37, but it feels like 20," Eileen Chen said, adding she wasn't prepared for such a wintery cold.
Donita Lamour couldn't layer enough as she walked to work in the nearly freezing temperatures
"Turtleneck, sweater, fleece coat, scarf, hat and gloves," Lamour said, ticking off her cold-weather gear.
Clouds throughout the entire area will be on the increase, with showers developing in the afternoon. The southern areas of the NBC Chicago viewing area could continue to see a rain/snow mix, as well as an inch of accumulation in some spots.
Chicago usually sees its first appearance of snow around Oct. 30.
"We are never ready for it," Diana Ferguson said. "It happened so fast."
The day's high temperatures remained in the low 40s before dropping back into the 30s in the city and the upper 20s inland.
Lake-effect snow showers remained in the Wednesday forecast for northwest Indiana.
