Chicago police Supt. Garry McCarthy said Friday night that he believes "almost everyone" in connection with a rash of mob-like attacks and robberies has been arrested.
To date, McCarthy said 34 people have been arrested in the wake of a series of headline-grabbing attacks, where multiple people gang up on one or two, cause injury and steal their belongings.
Felony aggravated charges against two young men were announced earlier Friday in connection with an attack at Chicago and Wabash avenues earlier this week. A third, a juvenile, was also charged.
On Wednesday, three people were charged in connection with weekend attacks on Chicago Transit Authority buses.
Other attacks include one Thursday, against the brother of Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, and weekend attacks in Streeterville and along the lakefront.
McCarthy also said that though the department is some 2,000 officers short, he insisted the department has "a lot of manpower" and said strategies are being developed to make sure that high-crime areas have the appropriate number of officers.
His comments came at an evening press conference announcing charges against a man accused of shooting and injuring two young girls at Avondale Park on Wednesday.
