Chicago police exchanged gunfire with a man after responding to shots fired near a South Side elementary school.
According to Chicago Police Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi, a CPD gang unit heard shots fired in the 6700 block of South Ellis, just steps from the James Wadsworth STEM school, in the city’s Woodlawn neighborhood on Friday afternoon.
After identifying the suspect, officers fired shots at the gunman, but did not strike him, according to authorities.
No one was struck in the altercation, but police were able to detain three men in connection with the shooting, and recovered multiple weapons at the scene.
