Police Question ‘Person of Interest' in Cop Slaying

Police are questioning a 'person of interest' in the shooting death of a Chicago Police Officer that was killed friday afternoon, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

According to the paper, the 'person of interest' is a 19-year-old parolee.

Michael Flisk, 46, was shot and killed Friday.  A $10,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever gunned down a decorated police officer and a former Chicago Housing Authority officer on Friday.

Flisk was the fifth Chicago police officer to be shot and killed this year and the second this week.  Officer David Blake was found with bullet wounds to the head on Monday.

"There hasn't been a year this bad since the 1960s," Fraternal Order of Police president Mark Donahue, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Flisk and the CHA officer, 44-year-old Stephen Peters, were shot in an alley on the 8100 block of South Manistee Avenue Friday afternoon, apparently while discussing and investigating a break-in of Peters' Mustang GT, which was parked in the garage.

Both men leave behind wives and children.  Flisk was months away from celebrating 20 years with the force, said Supt. Jody Weis.  Peters was already retired, having worked for the Chicago Housing Authority and a suburban police department.  He was also a military veteran.

"We will squeeze that neighborhood and we will find the people who did this," Weis said Friday.

The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation has put up the reward and can be reached at 888-976-7468. Chicago Police Area Two detectives, who are also seeking information in the case, can be reached at 312-747-8272.
