Family, friends, and Chicago residents are saying goodbye to one of two police officers killed in the line of duty earlier this week.
On Friday afternoon, hundreds lined up to pay their respects to Officer Eduardo Marmolejo, who was killed when he was struck by a commuter train on Monday evening.
“He was always happy, very caring,” friend Karen Frutos said. “He’s a family man. He was all about his family and friends.”
The wake service was held at the Blake Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn, the same place where hundreds gathered to pay tribute to Officer Conrad Gary on Thursday.
“Especially on the holidays its really rough, because it’s supposed to be a time of joy right now and right now it’s just a big sadness for everyone,” Marmolejo’s cousin Jocelyn Carmona said.
The 36-year-old Marmolejo and his partner, 31-year-old Gary, were investigating a ShotSpotter call of shots fired on Monday evening near 103rd when they were struck and killed by a Metra South Shore Line train.
In the days since, 24-year-old Edward Brown has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm after he allegedly fired a gun into the air, sparking the search.

On Saturday, Marmolejo will be laid to rest after a funeral service at St. Rita of Cascia at 11 a.m., with Cardinal Blase Cupich presiding.
