Man Shot, Killed at West Side Bus Shelter

Donatello Herrera was on the sidewalk on the 1200 block of South Western Avenue someone in a dark-colored SUV opened fire, police said

A man was shot to death early Wednesday on Chicago's Near West Side, police said.

Donatello Herrera, 35, was standing on the sidewalk on the 1200 block of South Western Avenue about 1:15 a.m. when a dark-colored SUV drove past and someone inside opened fire and shot him in the abdomen, his wife and and police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Herrera was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was later pronounced dead, Alfaro said.

The manager at a nearby Burger King restaurant said Herrera had worked with him for about the last four months.

The motive behind the shooting was unknown as of 1:30 p.m.
