Chicago Suburb Makes List of Top 20 Richest Cities in America

A Chicago suburb has been ranked among the top 20 wealthiest cities in America.

North suburban Glencoe was found to have the 17th highest aggregate household income in the U.S., according to researchers at FindTheHome.

Data from the American Community Survey was used in the study to rank the average per capita income in cities larger than 4,000 people. 

With a population of 8,824, the city of Glencoe has an average per capita income of $103,788, more than 3.4 times the average for the state of Illinois at $30,019. 

Just over 85 percent of Glencoe dwellers have a bachelor’s degree or higher, according to the data, with almost 74 percent of residents that are married. The reason being may be because research shows affluent areas typically attract married couples who have or are planning to have children, according to the Northwest Indiana Times.
