1 Dead, at Least 8 Wounded in Weekend Shootings

A person is dead and at least eight more have been wounded in shootings across Chicago this weekend. 

The weekend's first fatal shooting occurred early on Sunday morning in the 100 block of North Lamon, according to Chicago police. 

Just before 5 a.m., police responded to a call of a person being shot in the neighborhood, and when they arrived on scene they found a 21-year-old man lying face down in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to his face. 

The man was pronounced dead on the scene, and no one is in custody according to police. 

In the city's most recent shooting, a 23-year-old man was shot in the right arm at approximately 7:22 p.m. Sunday night. The shooting, which occurred in the 7100 block of South Mozart, left the victim in good condition at Christ Hospital, police said. 

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 49-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle in the 6600 block of South Minerva at approximately 3:40 a.m. when he was shot in the chest and both legs, according to authorities.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired, and when they arrived on the scene they found the man in the driver’s seat. He was taken to Northwestern University Hospital in critical condition.

Saturday: 

  • In the 7100 block of South Vernon Avenue at approximately 8:26 p.m., two men were sitting in side of a car and were shot by an unknown offender.A 32-year-old man was taken to Christ Hospital with a gunshot wound to his face, and another 32-year-old man was shot in the head, arm, and shoulder. According to police, both men are in stable condition at Christ Hospital, and no one is in custody.
  • Just after 8 p.m. Saturday night, two teenagers were shot in the 5200 block of West Harrison, according to police. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg and was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition. Another 17-year-old was shot in the foot, and was taken to Loretto Hospital in stable condition, according to authorities.
Sunday: 

  • A 23-year-old man was walking in the 700 block of North Christiana at approximately 2:54 p.m. when a dark colored vehicle approached and an unknown occupant fired shots. The man sustained gunshot wounds to the buttocks and leg, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, according to police.
  • A 22-year-old woman was sitting in a car in the 0-100 block of West 87th Street just before 6 p.m. when another vehicle drove up and an occupant fired shots at her. She was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to her stomach. 

No one is in custody in connection with any of these shootings.
