White Sox Hold Off Athletics 4-3

Coco Crisp was caught trying to score the tying run on a straight steal of home in the eighth inning, and the Chicago White Sox held off the Oakland Athletics 4-3 Friday night.

Omar Vizquel had an RBI double during a four-run second inning and Phil Humber pitched well into the seventh. Paul Konerko added two hits for Chicago, which improved to 5-2 on its current road trip.

Still, the White Sox are nine games behind first-place Cleveland in the AL Central.

Humber (3-3) gave up three runs and six hits in six-plus innings, the fourth straight solid outing by the right-hander. He didn't walk a batter for the first time in seven starts this season.

David DeJesus had two hits for the A's and needs one more to reach 1,000 for his career.
