Chicago native Chance the Rapper referenced the Laquan McDonald shooting during a performance on “Saturday Night Live.”
Chance the Rapper, from Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood, performed “Sunday Candy” with The Social Experiment while wearing a White Sox baseball cap and letter jacket.
"I've been waiting all week. I've been waiting all night. Jason Van Dyke. Had to say something on Saturday, see you at church on Sunday," Chance the Rapper sang.
Van Dyke is the Chicago police officer charged with murder for fatally shooting 17-year-old McDonald 16 times in October of 2014.
McDonald’s death continues to spark protests and calls for high ranking officials, including Mayor Rahm Emanuel, to resign.
Chance the Rapper was reportedly the first independent artist to perform on “Saturday Night Live,” according to The Chicago Tribune.
