Love is in the air — and on the ice.
At least for Alexa Scimeca Knierim and her husband Chris.
As if it wasn’t enough to be competing together on Olympic ice, the duo, the first married American couple to compete together in 20 years, had their short program skate on Valentine’s Day.
While it wasn’t exactly their best skate, their love was visible both during and after their routine as Chris Knierim whispered to his wife a Valentine’s Day message.
For the Knierims, the moment was a blur.
When asked what her husband said on the ice that made her smile so big, Addison’s Scimeca Knierim struggled to recall.
And so did Chris.

“What did I say?” he asked his wife during the interview.
“Anything he says is usually making me smile,” Scimeca Knierim said.
But then Chris chimed in again.
“I said, ‘Great job and happy Valentine’s Day’” he recalled.
And the duo ended the event with an even greater display of their love as Scimeca Knierim stood off the ice holding a large teddy bear and a heart-shaped piece of paper that read “Will you (still) be mine?”
“I did tell him that I think the only thing that could top this is like having a child on Valentine’s Day,” Scimeca Knierim said.
