Police shut down a Southeast Side salvage yard Monday after finding dozens of what are believed to be stolen vehicle.
Authorities received a call from someone who thought he saw his stolen car at Adelman's Truck Parts in the 300 block of East 106th Street.
When officers arrived at the scene in the at about 11 a.m., they say they found evidence of at least 30 stolen cars.
Police were on the scene for several hours collecting evidence at the scene.
"They wouldn't say nothing, they were just checking out the cars and going back in and out, but they weren't saying nothing," employee Marco Cruz said. "I'm a machine operator, so I don't know what's going on."
Most of the vehicles were full-sized vans and minivans, many of which may have been crushed.
Independent contractor Oscar Santiago occasionally hauls scrap metal for the salvage company, and was about to complete a load when police locked down the lot.
"This guy seems to be professional about what they do, we never had any problems with them. I'm sure whatever is going on down here they will straighten out," Santiago said.
Adelman's is one of the largest salvage companies in the country and is headquarted in Ohio.
Nobody has been arrested in the case.
