Events to Honor Veterans Planned Statewide

Chicago will host its 86th Annual Veterans Day Parade

Festivities are scheduled across Illinois to honor veterans who served their country.

Chicago will host its 86th Annual Veterans Day Parade with Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White as grand marshal. He's also a veteran. The event kicks off Monday morning.

Also, City Colleges of Chicago will hold veterans recognition ceremonies on its campuses.

Many schools will be closed Monday, including those in Chicago. It's also a U.S. Postal Service holiday and most government buildings will be closed.

In Springfield, a group of veterans will honor Purple Heart recipients at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Though the holiday is observed Monday, many communities held parades and ceremonies over the weekend.
