2 Dead, 5 Injured After Blaze Tears Through Glendale Heights Apartment Complex

An extra-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Glendale Heights left at least two people dead, multiple others, including a juvenile and several first responders, were injured and several others displaced, authorities said. NBC 5’s Kate Chappell reports.

An extra-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Glendale Heights left at least two people dead, multiple others, including a juvenile and several first responders, were injured and several others displaced, authorities said.

Firefighters were seen battling a blaze at a building at the Waters Edge Condominiums in the 100 block of Dunteman, one of several apartment buildings located in the area.

The Glendale Heights Police Department said two people were killed but their cause of death was not immediately known. A juvenile was taken from the scene to an area hospital with unknown injuries, authorities said.

A police officer and three firefighters were also taken to area hospitals with injuries following the blaze. Their conditions were not immediately released.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known and an investigation is underway.

One resident reported hearing an explosion before witnessing smoke and flames.

Several units were affected by the blaze, leaving multiple residents displaced. The Red Cross was responding to the scene.
