Family Members of Those Killed on Dangerous Road Urge Lawmakers to Make Changes

Crosses line a dangerous stretch of road in unincorporated Willow Springs, honoring those who have died while navigating the curvy street.

As many as four deaths have happened in the past year along Archer Avenue, and survivors say something must be done.

“Cars are going way too fast,” said Michael Toomey, who lost his son Dylan in a crash.

Toomey said the road’s 55 mph speed limit is too high, and he is pushing lawmakers to have it reduced. He, and other relatives of those killed, also want lighting added to highlight the curvy stretch.

“I don’t know how many crosses have to go up before they do something,” Toomey said.

Congressman Dan Lipinski said in a statement he has contacted the Illinois Department of Transportation about the issue and plans to do all he can to prevent future accidents.

“I hope to God it does not have to be another fatality for them to open their eyes,” Toomey said.
