A family is searching for answers after an 11-year-old boy was found shot to death inside his Chicago home.
Jechon Anderson was found just before 1 a.m. early Monday on the floor of a home in the 900 block of West 119th Street in the city's West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side, according to Chicago police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Authorities initially said the boy was discovered with "blunt trauma to the head" and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hours later, citing the medical examiner, police revealed that Jechon had been shot in the head. His death was being investigated as a homicide as of late Monday morning and three people were being questioned, police said.
Jechon was a fifth grader at Harold Washington Elementary School, his mother said. His family said he was looking forward to basketball camp this summer and that they were in shock because they never thought he would be in danger.
"My brother didn’t do nothing to nobody. All he wanted to do was play ball," his sister Deonce Pittman said.
"We just want to get, you know, just find out exactly what happened and any details," his aunt Pamela Pittman added.
Jechon had been living at the home where he was found dead for the past several months with his father, family members said.
Investigators have not said who the three people being questioned were, or whether they remained in custody Tuesday.
