It could be his best birthday present ever.
Sunday morning, Father Michael Pfleger returned to the pulpit at St. Sabina for the first time since his reinstatement as the parish pastor.
Pfleger, who turned 62 on Sunday, was suspended after he said he'd rather leave the Catholic church than be moved from St. Sabina to take over leadership of nearby Leo High School, as directed by the Archdiocese.
He was reinstated Friday, after meeting with Francis Cardinal George and apologizing. He also agreed to set up a transition plan by Dec. 1, which would pave the way for him ultimately leaving St. Sabina, where he's been pastor for the past 30 years.
Pfleger presided over the 11:15 a.m. Mass, starting his sermon Sunday by acknowledging that things could have been worse.
"You ought to praise Him because the world didn't end yesterday," Pfleger said. "Hallelujah!"
