After more than eight hours of searching, Lake County Sheriff's officials found the human foot spotted in Lake Marie Wednesday -- and determined it was actually that of a mannequin.
Police responded Wednesday morning to a call of a child reporting an unattached human foot that fell off his fishing line only feet from a boat.
Two adults with the child also believed the object was a human foot, according to the Lake County Sheriff's office.
Divers searched with sonar equipment for the foot until approximately 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lt. Christopher Thompson, when they discovered it was not a human foot.
"It was a Halloween prop," Thompson told NBCChicago.
"Needless to say everyone involved is relieved that the foot turned out to be a fake one," he said in a statement.
