Former Bears Player Charged with Domestic Battery

Former Chicago Bears wide receiver David Terrell was charged with domestic battery and was being held on $10,000 bond Saturday.

Terrell was arrested Friday at 1:40 p.m. after he allegedly grabbed a 25-year-old woman, described as a former girlfriend, during an argument at his apartment in the 1700 block of South Michigan, said Chicago Police Spokesman John Mirabelli.

The woman left the apartment and contacted police after she checked into Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Mirabelli said. The woman had bruises on her neck, chest and arms, Mirabelli said, adding that she was treated and released.

Mirabelli said that the woman told police Terrell verbally threatened her but he could not confirm what exactly Terrell said.

The 6-foot-3, 212-pound former wide receiver is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail after a Saturday morning bond hearing, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

Terrell, who played for the University of Michigan, was a former eighth pick in the first round of the draft for the Bears. He played for the team for four seasons, from 2001 to 2004.

Terrell’s best season was his rookie year, when he caught 42 passes for 699 yards and one touchdown — the same season the Bears exceeded expectations and posted a 13-3 record before the Philadelphia Eagles foiled the team’s title hopes in a divisional playoff upset.

He was widely considered a bust as a Bears receiver.

He made an unsuccessful comeback attempt in 2005 with the Denver Broncos, but only played in a single game and caught no passes.

He finished his NFL career with 128 receptions for 1,602 yards and nine touchdowns.

His next court date is scheduled for April 30.
