Trains on Metra's BNSF Line were halted in both directions in Aurora during morning rush hour Tuesday after a freight train derailed in the area, the rail agency said.
Inbound and outbound train movement was halted around 7:30 a.m., an alert from Metra stated. Just after 8 a.m., the agency said trains were resuming service.
A spokesperson for Metra said the incident happened in the Eola freight yard, when two cars fell off the tracks. Officials were on site early Tuesday morning working to reopen the track.
According to the rail agency, trains no. 1236, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:02 a.m., and no. 1246, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:22 a.m. were the first stopped from leaving the west suburban station.
Train no. 1205, scheduled to arrive in Aurora at 7:26 a.m. was stopped at Route 59, officials said.
