Area Police Chiefs Meet Secretly With CPD

City looking to augment its 12,000 officers for G8

Police chiefs from dozens of surrounding communities met at the Chicago Police Department headquarters today, but none of them wanted to talk about the meeting.

They were there to plan for the G8 summit and its inevitable protests. Chicago police have indicated they may enlist the help of scores of officers from other departments. However, no one will say how those officers might be deployed, or who will pay for them.

A post on the counter-culture Web site Adbusters has called for 50,000 protesters to descend on Chicago this May. The city has only 12,000 police officers.
