The New Trier student charged in a hit-and-run collision that left a fellow student seriously injured pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence.
Erin Hughes, 18, admitted in May to smoking marijuana before getting into accident that put 16-year-old Sarah Goone in the hospital.
Her lawyer, Barry Spector, told Cook County Circuit Court Judge Larry Axelrood her plea.
Hughes has been submitting to urine and drug tests and has been prohibited from driving since an anonymous donor posted bail to set her free from Cook County Jail.
If convicted she faces a maximum of three years in prison for the felony charge.
Meanwhile, victim Sarah Goone is recuperating at home after weeks in the hospital. Her family says she will be in school this fall.
