Last year, the Chicago Cubs struggled to find a quality lead-off hitter, but this season it may have taken them just one pitch.
That’s because Ian Happ, who had five lead-off home runs during spring training, hit another one on the very first pitch of the 2018 MLB season. Happ slugged a home run over the right field wall to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead, and likely made for a very cold day for one Cubs writer:
Talk about “Everybody In.”
Michael Cerami, who covers the team for Bleacher Nation, said that he would jump into Lake Michigan if Happ led off the season with a home run, and that’s exactly what he did.
Predictably, the Cubs had a field day with the home run, pointing out all the categories that Happ now leads the league in after his lead-off blast:
We will update the story if Cerami makes the jump into Lake Michigan, which currently has a water temperature of 41 degrees.
