The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has announced that eight more adult-use cannabis licenses have been issued to dispensaries in the state, bringing the total number of approved licenses to 22.
The licenses will allow existing medical cannabis dispensaries to begin selling the drug recreationally beginning on Jan. 1, when recreational marijuana will become legal in the state of Illinois.
The process for opening recreational marijuana dispensaries is currently limited to existing medicinal marijuana dispensaries, but according to the IDFPR, new applicants will be allowed to apply for dispensary licenses within the coming months.
The new dispensaries were approved for:

the dispensary in Arlington Heights may not be allowed to sell recreational marijuana right away, as the village recently voted to ban sales within village limits.
Beginning Jan. 1, residents in Illinois who are at least 21 years old will legally be allowed to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis flower, up to five grams of cannabis concentrate, and up to 500 milligrams of THC in a cannabis-infused product.
