The Illinois Tollway will invest $1.4 billion in new projects in 2016, making it among the largest construction years in the agency's history.
Below lists where drivers can expect the major roadwork work to occur, as outlined by the Tollway:
Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90)
• Rebuilding and widening 25 miles of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) between Elgin and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294)
• Completion of work at interchanges including Illinois Route 31, Illinois Route 25, Barrington Road, Roselle Road, Meacham Road and Elmhurst Road
• Reconstruction of entire I-90 corridor to add “smart” features as needed
• Activation of new I‐90 SmartRoad in 2017 that will feature high-tech overhead signs every half mile between Barrington Road and the Kennedy Expressway. The structures will provide real-time traffic information to drivers as well as pattern changes, alternate routes and advisory speeds
Local
Illinois Route 390 Tollway
• Continuing construction of new roadway east from the I-290 Interchange to Illinois Route 83 along Thorndale Avenue, including building of new bridges and frontage roads
• Rebuilding of I-290 Interchange with Illinois Route 390 Tollway, including building of new flyover ramp connecting eastbound I-290 to eastbound Illinois Route 390
• Building of full interchanges at Wood Dale Road and Illinois Route 83
• Construction of new full-access interchange that will provide direct access to provide direct access to Illinois Route 390 from Prospect Avenue and from Arlington Heights Road
Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88)
• Maintenance work on five bridges along eastern end of I-88
• Repairs on ramp from westbound I-88 to northbound Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) over Finley Road
• Repairs on ramp from southbound I-355 to eastbound I-88
Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355)
• Widening to four lanes on one-mile section of southbound I-355 between 71st Street and 75th Street
• Realignment of ramps to and from south to match the new mainline configuration
