Paramedics and firefighters responded to an Indiana ravine after a truck left westbound Interstate 94 and crashed into the water near Chesterton.
According to authorities, a pick-up truck left the roadway and ultimately came to rest in a ravine underneath the highway at some point in recent days.
Two Good Samaritans, searching for a fishing spot, came upon the vehicle Tuesday afternoon. The driver told them he had been trapped since Wednesday, and had been unable to reach his phone, which had fallen on the floor of the vehicle.
Firefighters were able to rescue him, and he was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.
According to Total Traffic, the regular traffic lanes of Interstate 94 were closed for several between U.S. 20 and State Route 249 as crews respond to the crash. All lanes reopened shortly after 6 p.m.
