A man police have charged in the Darien triple homicides was last year hailed as a hero for scooping an infant boy from an intersection and out of oncoming traffic.
John Borizov is accused of hiring Jacob Nodarse to kill Jeffrey, Lori and Michael Kramer, the parents and sibling of his ex-girlfriend, Angela Kramer.
Nodarse was taken into custody about 36 hours after the slayings at his parents' home in Florida.
"Jacob Nodarse was Johnny Borizov's tool to carry out horrendous violence," DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett said.
The police charges represent a dramatic change of circumstance for Borizov.
Less than a year ago, Borizov saved the life of an infant child during a traffic accident that killed the child's mother.
Borizov was driving his van at 47th Street and 8th Avenue in LaGrange last May 19 when he was sideswiped by a silver SUV that had just struck the mother and her two children, who were crossing the street.
The mother, 30-year-old Cari Cook, died from her injuries. Her infant son was thrown from the carrier strapped to her chest and into oncoming traffic where he was picked up by Borizov. Cook's 2-year-old daughter was not injured.
"The difficulty of having to live with the memory of someone killed right before his eyes... It was a very traumatic, tragic experience," said Grant Dixon, Borizov's attorney, at the time.
