Some Joliet residents were briefly under a shelter-in-place order Wednesday morning due to an "active incident" at a residence that later resolved without incident.
The incident began around 9 a.m. Wednesday, when officers were called to a residence in the 5500 block of Meadowbrook Street for reports that someone inside the home was threatening another with a firearm.
Officers then established a perimeter around the residence, and a shelter-in-place was issued for those in the neighborhood and nearby schools, Sgt. Dwayne English said in a release.
The Joliet Police Department Special Operations Squad and Crisis Negotiator Team were deployed to the scene, English said, and gave instructions for occupants inside the home to come outside. According to authorities, the caller, a 47-year-old man, and his two adult sons eventually exited the home.
No other occupants were located in the residence and a shotgun was recovered, police said.
According to officials, the man may have experience a mental health episode that led to the incident. He was transported to a nearby medical center for evaluation, officials said.
At 10:20 a.m., officials posted that the incident had been "safely resolved" and that the shelter in place had been rescinded.
