This week's excessive heat warnings will have prompted officials to turn a Thursday 5km race into an untimed walk.
More than 4,000 Chicago attorneys and professionals representing the city's most prominent law firms and businesses are expected to turn out for the 18th Annual Race Judicata from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Officials on Wednesday made the decision to turn the event into a walk, with food and beverages served before and throughout the untimed "race," due to concerns over high heat.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation, Chicago's first and pre-eminent pro bono provider of free civil legal aid to citizens with financial need. Each year, more than 3,000 CVLS volunteer attorneys provide millions of dollars in legal services to over 18,000 of Chicago's citizens. CVLS handles 44.8 percent of pro bono cases in Illinois.
Free ice cream will given out at the Grant Thornton LLP sponsored tent, the global audit, accounting and tax service organization who have registered the largest team with over 200 walkers.
The venue for the walk will be at Grant Park's Upper Hutchinson Field, and the start/finish line will be located on the Southwest corner of Columbus Drive and Balboa Drive.
