Chicago police officer dies after shooting in East Chatham, sources say

At around 8 p.m., several police vehicles were seen in the area of South Ingleside Avenue near East 82nd Street.

A Chicago police officer died after being shot Monday night in the East Chatham neighborhood on the city's South Side, sources confirmed to NBC Chicago.

The shooting occurred at around 8 p.m. near Ingleside Avenue and East 82nd Street. The officer was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died, sources said.

A large number of police vehicles, as well as dozens of Chicago police officers were visible outside the hospital following the shooting. In a post on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, the Chicago Police Department confirmed a police-involved shooting but didn't provide additional details.

Chicago's Civilian Office of Police Accountability said it responded to an incident involving members of the Chicago Police Department in the 8000 block of South Ingleside. Anyone with information on the incident was asked to call COPA at 312-746-3609 or visit its website.
